Communication

Children in the Garden

Our children live in a world where information is everywhere. Communication enables us to form relationships, express our thoughts and ideas and understand what other people might be feeling and thinking. For young children:

  • They interact verbally and non-verbally, using body language to develop relationships

  • They engage with a range of texts and get meaning from these texts

  • They express their ideas and make meaning using a range of media

  • They begin to understand how symbols and pattern systems work

  • They use digital technologies to access information, investigate ideas and represent their thinking

What might this look like?

Your child will be able to talk about how they are feeling, begin to show empathy for others as they learn to read facial expressions and body language. They explore ways  they can share their knowledge and understanding with others and they begin to understand the purpose of reading and writing. They can use digital technology responsibly and they understand the rules and expectations that come with using these devices.
